Rumor: Apple Pay, iOS 8.1 Release Date Revealed

You won't have to wait much longer for Apple Pay, if a new report holds true. In fact, it might even arrive in time to help you pay for your Halloween costume.
The mobile payment platform is slated to release as part of Apple's iOS 8.1 update on Oct. 20, according to banking blog Bank Innovation.
Apple Pay uses NFC (near-field communication) technology. Owners of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be able to pay for items by tapping their phones to payment terminals and verifying their identities with a fingerprint.
It was already widely suspected that Apple Pay would be included with iOS 8.1; at its iPhone 6 launch event on Sept. 9, Apple said the feature would come to the new iPhones in October. Apple Pay's initial retail partners will include McDonald's, Macy's, Walgreens and Subway.
Bank Innovation is the same blog that reported "PayPal pissed Apple off so much" by partnering with Samsung on the Galaxy S5 that it was excluded from Apple Pay.
On Monday, Mashable and others reported that the iOS 8.1 beta included settings for Apple Pay, plus references to Apple Pay (for in-app purchases) and Touch ID support on iPads.
